One of our guests, and now a good friend, put together a video of their visit with us at Oonlee Bungalows here on Koh Jum. Jamie and Shannon were on a short travel adventure that began with the 19 hour San Francisco to Bangkok flight. They told us about their wonderful experience at the Chatuchak Weekend Market (also called the JJ market) in Bangkok where amazing shopping is on offer. From delicious Thai food, interesting crafts, custom t-shirts, massage, art, to authentic antiques if you have a good eye for those things. Chatuchak does not have much of the typical tourist trinkets that are found all over Asia (all originating in China). If you are not into the ubiquitous indoor shopping malls found in every major city, you will be thrilled with the unique items on sale at the JJ market. From Bangkok, they decided on a adventurous bus ride into Cambodia to see Angkor Wat. After a whirlwind tour on Angkor, the two were looking for some uber relaxing beach time in Southern Thailand. As Jamie tells the story, he had been to Krabi five years earlier and had fond memories of the great rock climbing at Railay Beach and the pristine beaches. Jamie and Shannon landed in Krabi to find things had changed quite a bit. Krabi has seen huge levels of development in the last ten years and is not the tropical get-away the couple were hoping for. They told us that they found a tiny section about Koh Jum in the online Lonely Planet guide and decided to give it a try. Koh Jum is just a short ferry ride from Krabi and offers a true Thailand island experience. Koh Jum has unspoiled beaches with bungalows spread out over the island to offer plenty of room to relax for all. There are no high-rise hotels that bring the requisite t-shirt shops, internet cafes, crazy clubs, and the like. You can trek up and around Koh Phu mountain or just read a book all day on the beach. Jamie and Shannon gave us a wonderful review on TripAdvisor and email occasionally to say hello. You’ll see some of their photos in the video…have a look!
